Athletes can find financial assistance through a variety of grants, funds and scholarships. This page introduces you to some of those opportunities.
U.S. Olympic Committee Grants
The United States Olympic Committee financially supports our athletes through the Basic Grant, Tuition Grants, Operation Gold and the Basic Plus Grant.Basic Grant
This grant is intended to provide financial assistance to high performance athletes for training and
competition expenses. The International Committee Management Subcommittee (ICMS) nominated each year 18
athletes for Basic Grant consideration. The USOC then makes the final award selections. Once approved,
Basic Grantees are eligible to apply for USOC Special Assistance and Tuition Grants.
Tuition Grants
Tuition Grants are intended to help defray a portion of the athletes' tuition costs, and in doing so,
encourage athletes to further their formal education in preparation for lifelong career goals.
Operation Gold
Operation Gold Awards reward athletes for top-place finishes in the World Championships, or in Olympic years, the Olympic Winter Games.
BasicPlus Grant
Basic Grantees who were top four place finishers in the previous year's Operation Gold competition are eligible for BasicPlus Grants.
A designation list is submitted by U.S. Figure Skating to the USOC for these awards, on behalf of their athletes. Selected athletes are notified if they have been nominated.
