Queen of the ballroom

Like millions of Americans, Kristi Yamaguchi was a fan of the TV show "Dancing with the Stars." She and her friends would watch each episode and rehash the results. So imagine her surprise when her agent, Yuki Saegusa, told her the producers had extended an offer for her to join the cast for season six.

"It was a little bit of a shock," said Yamaguchi, 37. "I got really anxious right away."

Never one to turn down a challenge - or the opportunity to wear sparkly costumes - Yamaguchi signed on. Once she did, just like everything she's done in her life, she was in it 100 percent. The end result is now well known - not only did Yamaguchi triumph in season six (only the second woman to win), but she amassed the highest judges' scores of any celebrity in the show's history, including a perfect 90 for her final three dances. Although she appeared a natural at ballroom dancing, it took incredible dedication and training to achieve that effortless look.
