Age: 12
Hometown: Lansing, Mich.
Club: Summit Skating Club
Skating level: Low Beginner Freestyle
How long I've been skating: I've been skating since I was about 5 or 6. I was skating in a class at the park when my teacher saw that I was improving. She told me that I could go to the Summit to take ice skating classes. At first I planned to take group classes at the Summit, but I was the only one in my level, so after a while I switched to private lessons with the same coach.
How often I skate: I skate twice a week. I skate mostly at the end of the week.
Favorite skater: My favorite skater is Michelle Kwan. She's a great role model. I've always liked her and the way she skates.
Favorite jumps/moves: I like doing waltz jumps — I can do those best. I also like doing combination jumps. I'm learning a new jump right now: the split jump. It's really exciting, and I like it a lot.
Favorite skating moments: My favorite skating moment was going to my first competition. I was kind of scared and nervous, but I had fun and did pretty good. I always like going to competitions. Placing first or second or third (just placing at all) makes me feel that I can do anything.
What I like about skating: The thing I like about skating is how it makes me feel: happy and excited. Even when I'm in a bad mood, when I skate it takes my mind off it, and I have a great time.
What else you should know about me: I like to read, write, cheerlead, talk on the phone and hang out with my friends.
