KID SPOTLIGHT
May 2005
Age: 13
Home club: Cantiague FSC of Hicksville, N.Y.
Skating level: Intermediate
Coaches: Valerie Murray, Linda Lester, Tom Litz and Evelyn Kraemer
Favorite skater: Scott Hamilton because he combines skill and athleticism in entertaining programs, and even though he has some personal challenges he always has a smile on his face when he skates.
How often I skate: I skate five days a week, two hours each day in the winter and six hours a day, five days a week in the summer.
How I got started: I started skating when I was 5 years old. My mother put me on the ice at the local rink, and I ran across the rink and didn't fall down or hold onto the boards.
Favorite jumps/moves: I like spinning, especially the layback spins. It is lots of fun to spin and bend way back until my head almost touches my lower back.
Favorite skating moment: I have had the opportunity to represent the United States and U.S. Figure Skating as a member of the Young International program in Finland and Belgium. It is very exciting to step onto the ice in a foreign country and be announced as “representing the United States of America.”
Goals: I hope to continue to be able to represent the United States in international events, be successful competitively, and entertain and inspire others with my skating performances.
