| Katie Holtvogt |
Age: 12
Hometown: Centerville, Ohio
Club: South Dayton FSC (freestyle) and Oxford Ice Crystals Synchronized Skating Club (synchronized skating)
How often I skate: I skate two days a week in pre-juvenile freestyle and novice moves in the field. I just completed my bronze level in dance, and I can't wait to STEP (14), TROT (Fox) and WALTZ (European) my way through the pre-silver dances! Twice a week I skate on a synchronized team. When I am not practicing with a coach, I skate recreationally two days a week with friends during open skate. I feel it is important to have balance not only on your blades but in your life as well!
Favorite skaters: My favorite skaters are the ones who are working hard to become the best possible ice skater they can be. Skating with my peers and admiring their ambition and dedication gives me the inspiration to dream. Some day, maybe one of them, or even me, might become famous. (One day, I just might be on the cover of SKATING!)
How long I've been skating: I've been skating since I was 3. My mom was looking for an activity that could keep up with me. The ice rink with high walls and rental skates that would go as fast as I wanted them to was the perfect combination for me!
Favorite jumps/moves: My favorite jumps and moves are the ones I can't do ... YET! It's a great feeling when you land a perfect jump or move, but it's even better when you do it for the first time!

Favorite skating moment: The first time I got on the ice. When it was time to get off the ice, they had to catch me first!
What I like about skating: I thrive on competitions because they give me the opportunity to evaluate my progress. Skating gives me the freedom to express my creativity. Every skater has his/her own unique style of performing elements — hence, new and improved jumps, spins and moves are created, which keeps this sport interesting, challenging and FUN for me!
Goals: My future goals are to travel to Paris, France, with my dad (maybe to the Olympics!) and attend Notre Dame University. Notre Dame offers an excellent curriculum in education, has a synchronized skating team and will provide me with an opportunity to teach young children the joy of ice skating between my classes and competitions!
What else you should know about me: I am involved in Girl Scouts, gymnastics, flute lessons and liturgical dance during the week. To do all these activities I must maintain an A/B average in school and manage my time very wisely.
