| Nadine Joy Abad |
Age: 10
Hometown: San Diego, Calif.
Home club: San Diego FSC
Skating level: Juvenile
Coaches: Bob Pellaton, Matt Smith and Yuri Ovchinnikov
Choreographer: Natasha Bobrina
How I got started skating: I was 5 years old when my mom received a coupon for ice skating lessons, and thought it was a good deal. I enjoyed it so much that I haven't stopped skating since.
How often I skate: I skate at least 11/2 hours a day, six days per week.
Favorite skaters: My favorite skaters are Michelle Kwan for her grace, beauty and sportsmanship; Sasha Cohen for her flexibility; and Sarah Hughes for making me realize that if you believe it, you can become it.
Favorite jumps/moves: My favorite jumps are the double flip and double Lutz. I'm eager to focus on my double Axel. My favorite moves are my layback and Biellman spins.
Favorite skating moments: When I was selected as the Overall Artistic Champion when I was 7 and 9 years old, and when NBC7 called me for an interview that was featured on the news.
Goals: To clean up all of my double jumps, do well at the juvenile level next year, and to remain healthy, focused and injury-free.
What else you should know about me: I'm a hard-working girl who values private lessons. Our money is limited so I don't take things for granted. I like singing, dancing hip-hop, playing the violin, reading and drawing. I have a brother named Rjay and a dog named Jordan.
