Club/Level: Yonkers FSC (Intermediate)
Coaches: Sylvia Muccio and Amy Archidiacono
Team members: ulia Aronson, Kelly Chun, Mary Halling, Emma Marr, Juliana Bailey, Vicky Corradina, Christie Hunt, Jessica Moh, Jackie Bayer, Katharina Devitofranceschi, Kristina Jenkins, Johanna Katz, Nicole Muccio, Bobbi Borsellino, Ryan Donaghy, Alexis Leahy, Ashley Scorziello, Christine Capra, Kendall Goodman, Alexa Lutchen, Alex Wolitzer
Team rituals: At competitions we like to do yoga and meditation right before we put on our competition dresses. Once we are in the locker room with our skates on, we get a pep talk from our coach, and then if there is time we play a hand game called “Quack-Dilly-O-So.” As we walk from the dressing room to the rink we do an energy check, and then we are ready to skate.
What makes Team Image special? Our team is made up of a variety of ages, sizes and ethnic backgrounds, and we live in two different states. Despite our differences we are close and support each other on and off the ice. We love to cheer each other on in our individual skating, too. We like to do lots of things together besides skating — shopping, eating, watching movies or just hanging out in a hotel room at competitions.
Team goals: Our goal was to learn how to be a team. It took a lot of work, since many of us had not skated together before this year. But we did it. We took second place in almost every competition we participated in. Now our goal is to have even more fun next year and qualify for nationals.
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? The best part is forming such strong friendships — a synchro friend is not like any other. It is much better to have 20 girls to count on rather than just yourself.
What are some of your favorite memories? Here are a few — dancing to the music played during ice cuts at the Cape Cod Classic; going out for a team breakfast during winter break; putting on our ringlets for the first time; and best of all coming in second at three competitions.
Attention, synchronized skaters!
If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfsa.org.
Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
