Meet the South Suburban Stars
South Suburban Stars

Club/Level: Colorado SC (Teen Introductory)

Coaches: Kristen Alipit, Melissa England, Joanie Hupp, Terrie Nuekirch

Team members: Erica Rivoire, Erica Wormly, Katie Halbach, Natasha Rivoire, Brittany Gerard, Alyson Ryan, Lisa Li, Anna Knowles, Rachel Kosack, Tiffany Frieson, Sonia Chowdhury, Katie Etcheverry, Lexie Steinhauser, Katherine Thomas and Megan Wild

Team rituals: Our team ritual occurs right before a competition. We usually get together in our locker room and listen to our music. Then sometimes we do the hokey pokey, sing a song or play a game. The purpose is to get our minds off the competition and have fun.

What makes the South Suburban Stars special? Our team is special because unlike most synchronized skating teams, our team ranges in age, ability and skating experience. We have girls from ages 9–16. We have people who have been skating for years and some who have just started. We all work as one and always do our best.

Team goals: Our team goal is to do well and place in the top three at sectionals in January.

What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? There are two good things about being on a synchronized skating team. One is that we have to be able to face the challenges head on and not give up until it is taken care of. The other good thing is the friends that we make. Our friends on our team are trustworthy and hardworking.

What are some of your favorite things to do? Right before our practice starts while we are warming up, we love to turn the radio on and skate around the rink to all the different music.

Attention, synchronized skaters!

If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfigureskating.org.

Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
