| Crystal Edges |
Club/Level: DuPage FSC (Intermediate)
Coach: Kristin Winkiel
Team members: Amanda Ceaser, Jackie Korinek, Courtney Dodgers, Ashtynn Edenhofer, Janel Andersen, Molly Marquardt, Alexis Cooper, Stephanie Reaber, Megan Finlon, Ellen Johnson, Gina Geils, Jenna Ovan, Dina Amato, Christina Helm, Nicole Wegman, Megan Gibbs, Stephanie Meyer
Team rituals: Before competitions, team members stand around in a circle holding hands with their eyes closed. One person makes a team goal and squeezes the next person's hand. We go around the circle again, making a personal goal for how we would like to skate in the competition.
What makes the Crystal Edges special? We have all been together so long and we trust each other so much. We cooperate and trust each other equally. A great thing about our team is that we are like one big happy family. It's amazing how this sport has made us all such good friends. We know when to be serious and when to relax and have a good time.
Team goals: Our biggest goal is just to do our best and have fun doing it. It doesn't matter how we place. We work as a team to skate to the fullest of our capabilities.
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? We get to do something we love with the people that we love. Just the self satisfaction of knowing that we skated well is reward enough. Trophies and medals can not replace the feeling that we get when we step out on the ice with some of the best people we know.
What are some of your favorite memories? Some of our favorite memories are more personal, like Jackie's blade falling off so that she had to skate the rest of practice with the blade duct taped to her boot. Also being in a costume catalog and getting into a glitter fight in the locker room and being in this magazine were great.
Attention, synchronized skaters!
If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfigureskating.org.
Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
