Club/Level: Ice Illusions (Ogdensburg Figure Skating Club/Youth Introductory)
Coach: Kim Patterson
Team members: Sarah Ashwood, Elizabeth Bastien, Jenni Bridges, Caitlin Carey, Kelley Corbine, Samantha Delosh, Nicole Lazore, Catherine Murray, Katharine Phelan, Tifanny Savage, Leah Short, Emily Sloan, Chelsea Travis and Emily Watson
Team rituals: Before we compete we always do the chicken dance, cheers and listen to Shania Twain in the locker room to get pumped up.
What makes Ice Illusions special? Our team is special because we are all really different. Most of us came from different teams last year, and we have a variety of ages from 8 years to 13 years. Even though we are different we all came together to be best friends. It is almost like being a great big family.
Team goals: Our team goal now is to work really hard so we can have a clean skate at the State Games of America in Colorado.
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? The best part of being on a synchro team is being able to travel all over for competitions and shows. When you are on a synchro team you gain 13 more sisters. But the very best thing is just being with the team and skating your heart out.
What are some of your favorite memories? Our favorite memory is when we found out we won Easterns. We were all so excited and we were all thinking, “Nothing can get better than this.” Then we found out that we had qualified for the competition that was going to be held in Colorado
Attention, synchronized skaters!
If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfigureskating.org.
Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
