Meet Ice Cryatals of Eagan
Ice Crystals of Eagan

Club/level: Eagan Ice Crystal FSC/Open Juvenile

Coaches: Ann Harschutz, Sarah Payne, Carrie Schuneman

Team members: Kjersten Bratvold, Kayla Calhoun, Natalie Davis, Nicole Davis, Courtney Eitts, Sophie Eisenstat, Kathleen Ferraro, Claire Goldfrey, Tara Haggerty, Megan Hoffman, Shannon Kinley, Holly Kowalski, Christine McIntyre, Emily Peterson, Stephanie Rosicki, Katie Sather, Christina Sullivan, Hannah Volkman

Team rituals: We have lots of rituals. We do a team dance to the song “Move It” by Christina Aguilera, and we also do the Chicken Dance before we compete. We eat string cheese while we're getting our hair and make-up done. One of our captains reads the team an inspiring quote she picked our just for that competition. As we're getting ready to go on the ice at a competition, we put our hands in the middle of a circle and do our team cheer:

“Ice Ice Crystals,
Ding ding ding ding a la ding,
Ice on three,
one, two, three, ICE!”

What makes Ice Crystals special? This is our first year competing in U.S. Figure Skating. We are a big team, but we are all very close.

Team goals: We want to skate the best we can at every competition. We concentrate on working as a team, exuding confidence and staying focused. We also strive to build friendships within the team and have fun.

What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? The best thing about being on a synchronized skating team is experiencing new things, whether it's making new friends – both on our own team and on other teams – traveling to competitions or learning new steps.

What are some of your favorite memories? Our favorite on-ice memory is the first time we did our back lunge splice cleanly; everyone was so excited. After the Maplewood competition, we celebrated a job well done by going out to dinner, and our coach, Ann Harschutz, went behind the counter and started making pizza, throwing the dough in the air and everything. Other things we'll never forget are fooling around in the locker room as we're getting done up by the “Hair and Make-up Moms” and the pre-competition spaghetti and meatball dinner party we had in the hotel at the Duluth competition.
