| Members of the Starz with Mary Duncan and Katie Wright |
Club/level: Greater Evansville FSC/Pre-juvenile
Coaches: Amy Held, Danielle Sculley
Team members: Victoria Alexander-Beadles, Madison Bradford, Camerin Gilman, Madeline Gish, Katelyn Hurt, Belle Junge, Kyla Osborne, Olivia Price and Olivia Roll
Team rituals: We have a warm-up before every performance and then go to the locker rooms, so that we do not watch the other skaters. We do not want their performances to affect our energy.
What makes the Starz special? We believe in working together as a team on the ice, but we also believe in working together to give back to our community. On Nov. 6, 2005, a tornado ripped through our community, killing 22 people and leaving hundreds homeless. We adopted Mary Duncan, 11, and Katie Wright, 11, to be our buddies. They were both left homeless, and Mary's mother was killed. Mary was also seriously injured. Instead of having a Christmas party, the Starz shopped for the two girls, so they could decorate their new bedrooms and have warm, pretty rooms where they could start to rebuild their lives. We are now volunteering to raise funds to build a children's park at the site where so many people were killed by the tornado.
Team goals: To work together to give a beautiful performance every time we skate
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? We love performing well and getting medals, but the best part is all of the fun we have practicing and skating together. We work hard, but we always have fun.
What are some of your favorite memories? We love the memories of us all being friends and wanting to skate well and helping each other. We also love the memories of hearing our families cheering for us from the stands as we skate by.
