March 2008
Meet Jamie Hartman
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Each year, nearly 300 athletes around the country are named to the U.S. Synchronized Skating Team. Though familiar with the teams that represent the country, skating fans oftentimes don't know much about the individual athletes. Starting with the November 2007 issue of SKATING magazine, a different member of “Team USA” will be featured.)
Birthdate: Dec. 30, 1986
Hometown: Saline, Mich.
School: Junior at Miami University
Family: My parents are Al and Lisa Hartman, and I have a brother, Jordan and a sister, Taryn.
How long have you been skating: 16 years. My dad plays hockey and signed me up for Basic Skills when I was 4.

Do you have a previous team? I skated with the Hockettes before coming to Miami.
What do you like best about synchronized skating?
I like the atmosphere of being on a team. Synchronized skating is a unique sport and as a skater, it has been an amazing experience to achieve so many “firsts” individually as well as in U.S. Figure Skating history.
What do you do outside of skating?
I am on the executive committee for Miami University's chapter of Ambassadors for Children. I traveled to Malawi, Africa, and volunteered in an orphan village for two weeks this past summer. I am studying Early Childhood Education with a minor in Special Education. I hope to teach first grade.
What is your favorite competition memory?
Performing the free skate last year at the World Synchronized Skating Championships. The crowd was so responsive and added to the energy of the program. Another memory from the same competition was seeing the American flag raised and receiving a World silver medal.
