Meet Team Charisma
 |
| Team Charisma |
Club/Level: Independent (Teen Introductory)
Coaches: Sandra Johansson and Terri Milner
Team members: Nikki Anderson, Holly Nudelbacher, Lucy George, Kara Spice, Karin Giardino, Maggie Theisen, Heather Mueller, Heather Srnka, Rachel Schimmelpfenning, Rachel Harvey, Dana Blizniak, Jessica Protheroe, Kassi Sperl, Andrea Sorelle, Jennah, Landwehr.
Team rituals: We have music that we warm up to that has a mix of songs — everything from the tango to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Before taking the ice, we always stand in a tight circle and sway from right to left. One of our coaches lived in Sweden for six years so we have several Swedish cheers, one of which is "En for alla and alla for en," which means "One for all and all for one."
What makes Team Charisma special? Our team is special because we are one of the few independent teams in the nation. We were formed in one week with skaters from three different countries, and when the team was only 3 months old we won a bronze medal at the 2003 Midwestern Synchronized Team Skating Championships — our first competition.
Team goals: We are always working on improving our performances and trying unique moves in our program that will surprise the judges. We would also like to form two teams, move up to junior level and qualify for nationals.
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? The best part of being a member of Team Charisma is that there is always a friend next to you whether you're on the ice or off.
What are some of your favorite memories? Our best memories have been hearing our name called at Midwesterns. Also, when we huddled together and held hands while waiting to hear our results from the gold round at our latest competition. Some of our best memories, however, are the little things, such as when we're together and we laugh so hard we almost cry. Even practice is a blast when you're with people you absolutely love spending time with.
Attention, synchronized skaters!
If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfsa.org.
Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
