Meet the Skyliners
 |
| Skyliners |
Club/Level: Sound Shore FSC/Youth Introductory
Coaches: Heather Simmel, Sarah LeBlanc, Sandra Duarte, Carola Mandeville
Team members: Lauren Yablon, Sennett Cooke, Daritzya Barajas, Kayla D'Oyen, Rayna Gittelman, Alexa Harris, Patrik Pearson, Sarah Reeder, Lauren Sass, Abby Wylan
Team rituals: Some of our team rituals include warming up to choreographed dances such as the Cotton-Eyed Joe, Footloose and the Ketchup Song; standing in a straight line cheering and sending "good luck" high fives up and down the line while waiting to take the ice.
What makes Skyliners special? Our team is special because we are all great friends. In the beginning we were strangers, but we worked very hard as a group and now we have lots of fun together.
Team goals: Our team goal is to always try to skate our best, to perform wonderful programs and, of course, to have fun! We have been training hard this year and look forward to skating next season in the juvenile division.
What is the best part of being on a synchronized team? The best part of being a Skyliner is that we get to make new friends, travel together and skate together as one team. Also, by being on a synchronized team we are able to have our friends around while we are doing the sport we love.
What are some of your favorite memories? Some of our best memories are skating in Lake Placid, N.Y., and the Garden State Competition in New Jersey. Skating on Olympic Ice in Lake Placid was a thrill. We had an awesome skate and made it to the final round. At Garden State, we placed second and we were so happy. This was our last competition of the season, and we ended on a good note. All of our hard work paid off.
Attention, synchronized skaters!
If you'd like to see your synchronized team profiled in SKATING magazine, fill out the Synchronized Spotlight submission form below and send in a team picture to become the next team featured in Synchronized Spotlight! You can send in the form and photo by mail or e-mail them to skatingmagazine@usfsa.org.
Any team in the preliminary, youth introductory, teen introductory, juvenile, intermediate or novice divisions is eligibile. (Sorry higher level teams – this is for kids only!) Teams will be selected by SKATING magazine. We request that the questions are answered by the skaters — not moms, dads, big sisters, coaches or team managers. But please make sure to provide a contact phone number for a representative team member or coach.
