CLUB MATTER
January 2004
The U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund is pleased to announce the re-introduction of the Honor Roll of Clubs after an absence of 10 years. Through a new fundraising program called "Gold Medal Wishes," the Honor Roll of Clubs will again play a part in raising money for the Memorial Fund.
Original Honor Roll
The Honor Roll was originally developed by F. Ritter Shumway, the Memorial Fund's founder and first chairman, after the tragic plane crash of the 1961 World Team members, coaches and families.
Back then clubs were encouraged to donate $1 per member each year to the Memorial Fund. These donations went to further the fund's mission and vision of helping aspiring figure skaters through the Competitive Skaters Assistance Program and the Academic Scholarship Program.
During the more than 25 years the Honor Roll of Clubs was in existence, member clubs donated close to $100,000 to the Memorial Fund.
Gold Medal Wishes

The "Gold Medal Wishes" fundraising program affords clubs the opportunity to raise money for their own programs as well as support the Memorial Fund's CSAP and ASP programs. The Memorial Fund test-marketed this program last year with great success and is now offering this partnership opportunity.
Participating clubs will receive a packet containing 25 "Gold Medal Wishes" skates and 25 Memorial Fund brochures, the current Memorial Fund button and a color picture of the 2003 World Team, as well as information on how to market this program at nonqualifying competitions, exhibitions and other club fundraising events.
Additionally, a special ad will be included in each package for use by clubs in their event programs or in other fundraising promotions.
Clubs are requested to donate a minimum of $25 for each packet of "Wishes" received. Clubs are encouraged to sell the "Gold Medal Wishes" for the suggested price of $2, which then allows them to keep the additional donations received for their own programs.
Clubs may request as many "Wishes" packets as needed at U.S. Figure Skating Online (www.usfigureskating.org) or by contacting Tanja Slack by e-mail at tslack@usfsa.org.
Levels of Support
Each participating club will be recognized at the end of the skating year in a special Honor Roll of Clubs section in SKATING magazine at the following levels of support:
- Bronze $25 to $74
- Silver $75 to $149
- Gold $150 and higher
The Memorial Fund Committee wishes to thank those clubs who assisted with the test marketing of this program, as well as the clubs who have since joined with the Memorial Fund in this rewarding partnership. These clubs have already made a commitment to our future champions and scholars, but the committee looks forward to working with all of our clubs this season to help make our athletes' dreams and "Gold Medal Wishes" come true.
