U.S. Figure Skating Dr. Scott Nadler Memorial Excellence in Sports Science and Medicine Award
In 2004, Dr. Scott Nadler received the inaugural Excellence in Sports Science and Medicine award for his dedication to our skaters. In December of 2004, Dr. Nadler lost his battle with cancer. In his honor this award was renamed the Dr. Scott Nadler Memorial Award for Excellence in Sports Science and Medicine. An anonymous donation is being made to the Memorial Fund on the recipient's behalf.
Dr. Nadler was an integral faculty member for the past several years. He was responsible for the off-ice balance evaluations of the top four novice and top six junior skaters at high performance evaluations. Dr. Nadler was the 2004 World Team doctor and the 2003 Four Continents team physician.
When he was not volunteering for U.S. Figure Skating Dr. Nadler was an associate professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School where he served as Director of Sports Medicine. He was fellowship-trained in sports medicine and was a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine. He was the head physician at Rutgers University Newark, and Bloomfield College and the associate team physician at New Jersey City University and Saint Peters College.
He was active in research and had more than 100 abstracts, original research papers, reviews, and chapters published. Topics for his research included "Low Back Pain in Athletes," "The Influence of Core Strengthening," "Whiplash Injury" and "The Role of the Kinetic Chain in Injury Occurrence." He served as a research consultant to the Procter & Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. His research had been presented at the American College of Sports Medicine, the North American Spine Society and at the International Olympic Committee. Dr. Nadler was selected as one of the Best Doctors in America from 1996-2000 and the Best Doctors in New York from 1998-2001.

Any current U.S. Figure Skating Sports Science and Medicine Committee member, National Network member or current U.S. Figure Skating program faculty member. Demonstrated excellence in the area of sports science and medicine. Significant contribution in the area(s) of volunteerism, research, publication and education. A true champion to the athletes, coaches, and parents of U.S. Figure Skating.
Nominations for this award are accepted on an ongoing basis through December 1. E-mail your nomination to cboudreau@usfigureskating.org. Be sure to include your name and contact information, as well as the full name of the person you are nominating. Explain in detail how this individual demonstrated excellence in the area of Sports Science and Medicine, made a significant contribution in the area(s) of volunteerism, research, publication and education, and how he or she is a true champion to the athletes, coaches and parents of U.S. Figure Skating.
All nominations are reviewed in confidence by the chair of the Sports Science and Medicine Committee and four additional members appointed by the chair. The award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of Sports Medicine and Science in Figure Skating.
