Non-U.S. Citizen FAQ
If you have other questions about the non-U.S. citizen application to compete, please e-mail Lexi Rohner.
Q: By what date must non-U.S. citizens apply to compete at the U.S. Adult Championships?
A: If non-U.S. citizens wish to compete in any event at the U.S. Adult Championships - a "qualifying" competition - they must meet all requirements and send in the application form by the first business day after January 1 of that year.
Q: What is the difference between "qualifying" and "nonqualifying"? If I am competing in a "nonqualifying" event, must I fill out a non-U.S. citizen application to compete?
A: Events such as pre-bronze dance and adult silver ladies are "nonqualifying" events - also known as "open" events. But the U.S. Adult Championships overall is considered a "qualifying" competition since it includes several events that required qualification from adult sectionals. Therefore, since the competition itself is considered "qualifying," a non-U.S. citizen who wishes to enter the U.S. Adult Championships in any category, open or not, must complete a non-U.S.-citizen application to compete.
Q: To whom do the non-U.S. citizen rules apply?
A: All skaters - adult and non-adult - who are non-U.S. citizens must adhere to these rules. See ER 8.0 of the 2010-11 U.S. Figure Skating rulebook.
Q: Do I need to fill out the application to compete for adult sectionals and the U.S. Adult Championships?
A: A non-U.S. citizen application to compete is required for all events at the adult sectional championships and for all events at the U.S. Adult Championships. If you have completed the non-U.S. citizen application to compete for a championship event at the adult sectional championships, you do not need to fill out a separate one for the U.S. Adult Championships.
Q: If I am a U.S. citizen and my pairs and/or dance partner is not, do we need to complete a non-U.S. citizen application to compete?
A: Your partner needs to complete the requirements and an application by the required deadline in order to be considered and approved to compete. If you are a U.S. citizen, you do not need to apply.
Q: To whom do I send the application?
A: Non-U.S. citizen application forms are available on the Team USA forms page. Send your non-U.S. citizen application to the chair of the Competitions Committee. The name and address are listed on the forms page.
