Olympic Champion Hughes Set for New Challenge This Fall (8/03)

2002 Olympic Champion Sarah Hughes

(8/11/03) — Unlike previous years, 2002 Olympic champion Sarah Hughes (Great Neck, N.Y.) is not consumed with long hours in the rink preparing for another busy figure skating season. Instead, on August 29, she will move to the Yale University campus to start a new chapter in her life as a freshman college student.

Hughes is busy preparing for college and getting settled as she embarks upon a new academic and training routine. She says she is "looking forward to experiencing everything Yale has to offer — from its classrooms and libraries to its campus and training facilities."

As a result of her preparations and transition to the college life, Hughes will not compete in any of the fall figure skating events including the Campbell's International Figure Skating Classic in New York, N.Y. on October 3 or the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.
