(5/3/08) - 2008 Governing Council Saturday Updates

(4/10/08) - Janet Lynn Salomon will be the keynote speaker at the Athlete Advisory Committee (AAC) Alumni Dinner during this year's Governing Council meeting in Denver, Colo.

The five-time U.S. champion (1969-73) will deliver her message, “Skating Through Time,” on May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Adam's Mark Hotel.

“Each day while raising my family for the last 30 years, I have been able to apply lessons and principles that I learned from figure skating,” said Lynn Salomon, an Olympic bronze medalist and two-time World medalist. “My time away from skating has also broadened my life in beneficial ways. This has allowed me to explore the treasured lessons regarding the origins and principles of the joy of figure skating at many levels, as both a skater and an observer.”

In addition to the dinner, the evening will include an auction, with memorabilia signed by U.S., World and Olympic champions, and a raffle, with the grand prize being two all-event tickets to the 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. Proceeds will go to the AAC, which keeps athletes involved in the sport after they retire. This year the association was instrumental in setting up athlete mentoring opportunities and bringing alumni back to the U.S. Championships.
