2008 Governing Council Wrap Up

(5/3/08) - The secret keynote speaker for the 2008 Governing Council meeting was revealed shortly after 2 p.m. Friday when nine-time U.S. and five-time World champion Michelle Kwan was announced to all those in the Sheraton Denver's Grand Ballroom by U.S. Figure Skating President Ron Hershberger.
Kwan, who is a student at the nearby University of Denver and serves as an American Public Diplomacy Envoy, spoke for about eight minutes, giving words of encouragement and advice to the skaters in the audience. Watch video of Kwan's speech here (large file).
The 2008 Governing Council meeting began Wednesday, April 30 in Denver, Colo., with the Club Education Seminar. Thursday's proceedings included delegate meetings and forums, with topics ranging from "Growing Skating" to "Club Risk Management" to "Money Matters."
