(5/28/09) - Twenty-two U.S. adult skaters will compete May 28-31 in the fifth ISU International Adult Competition in Oberstdorf, Germany. Hosted by the Deutsche Eislauf-Union at the Ice Dome, U.S. skaters will compete against approximately 200 skaters from at least 20 countries in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing.
Competition begins Thursday with bronze compulsory dance. The event, spearheaded in 2005 by Rhea Schwartz and Paula Smart, both former U.S. Figure Skating Adult Skating Committee Chairs, along with Switzerland's Wolfgang Stummer and France's Barbara Standke, is the only ISU-sanctioned competition for adults and features almost 50 categories. Competitors range in age from their 20s to their 70s. Last year American skaters brought back 30 medals, including 11 golds.
