Governing Council Taking Place This Week in Costa Mesa, Calif.


(4/28/10) - Delegates from all over the country converge on the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa in Costa Mesa, Calif., April 29-May 2 for the 2010 Governing Council meeting. The four-day event consists of meetings, forums, seminars, the Athlete Alumni Dinner and the actual Governing Council from Friday, April 30 to Saturday, May 1.

The happenings on Thursday and Friday largely consist of seminars, committee meetings and meetings of delegates from each of the three sections. Seminar topics include:
  • Marketing & Publicity
  • Skating in the Schools
  • ISU Proposals
  • Critical Issues Q&A
  • Attract & Retain Members
  • Budget Review
  • Moves in the Field
  • Running a Successful Competition
  • Fundraising
  • Rink Relations
  • Synchronized Skating
  • Basic Skills Open Forum
  • Interclub Open Forum

Governing Council officially begins Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Athlete Alumni Dinner is scheduled for that night from 7-9 p.m. Olympic champion Tara Lipinski, three-time U.S. champions Jenni Meno and Todd Sand, and U.S. silver medalists Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig are among the special guests at the dinner.

Governing Council resumes Saturday and continues until 5:30 p.m. Following that is the President's Reception from 6-8 p.m. The event wraps up with a Club Education Seminar on Sunday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
