Yamaguchi to Light Cauldron at Olympic Celebration on July 27 in Colorado Springs

(5/18/12) - Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi and husband Bret Hedican, a two-time Team USA hockey member, have been selected to represent U.S. athletes this summer in Colorado Springs, Colo. the home of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Yamaguchi and Hedican, who met at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville and married in 2000, will light a cauldron near the USOC's headquarters in downtown Colorado Springs in a grand culmination to the inaugural Olympic Downtown Celebration, a free community event that will coincide with NBC's broadcast of the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The massive street party will also feature outdoor ice skating as three Olympic governing bodies, U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and USA Curling, will share a large sheet of synthetic ice that will allow event-goers to skate in the middle of downtown Colorado Springs in July.

Yamaguchi is the 1992 Olympic champion, a best-selling author, philanthropist and a winner of the popular Dancing with the Stars television show. Hedican won the 2006 Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes and is a television sports analyst covering the San Jose Sharks. They have two daughters, Keara Kiyomi, 8, and Emma Yoshiko, 6.
