U.S. Figure Skating Statement on the Waldo Canyon Fire(6/29/12) - U.S. Figure Skating would like to thank those who have sent messages and have kept our staff and the city of Colorado Springs in your thoughts. We appreciate the support of the figure skating community and hope that you will continue to keep the people of the state of Colorado in your thoughts as we navigate through this difficult time.
Over the last week, Colorado Springs has been impacted by the most destructive wildfire in the state's history. Members of the U.S. Figure Skating staff were included in the more than 32,000 people evacuated from their homes. We are pleased to report that all members of our staff are safe.
We have received inquiries about ways to support the victims of the Waldo Canyon Fire. The El Pomar Foundation, a long-time friend and supporter of U.S. Figure Skating, has committed $100,000 as a first contribution to establish an assistance fund to help those directly affected by the fire. The fund will be administered by the United Way of the Pikes Peak Region. U.S. Figure Skating supports this fund, and requests any donations be sent to:
