(8/21/12) - Thirty-nine athletes and their coaches will gather in Colorado Springs, Colo., Aug. 21-25 for U.S. Figure Skating's sixth annual Champs Camp. The performance-based camp, which includes program evaluations, training sessions, seminars and promotional video and photo shoots, will take place at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) and Colorado Springs World Arena.

The camp consists of skaters who are scheduled to compete in 2012 the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, which kicks off Oct. 19-21, with 2012 Hilton HHonors Skate America in Seattle/Kent, Wash.

"We are excited for our elite athletes and coaches to come together for Champs Camp," Mitch Moyer, senior director of athlete high performance, said. "We hope to provide the information and feedback necessary to make it a very successful season."

Skaters will spend time on the ice at the World Arena, where they will perform their short programs and free skates in a simulated competition environment on Wednesday and Thursday. A panel of specialists will meet with each competitor to offer technical feedback on the programs. After arriving and going through an orientation process, athletes will gather Tuesday night for a special keynote address. Throughout the week, athletes will also attend classes provided by U.S. Figure Skating that focus on subjects including media training, sports medicine and nutrition. A team building activity will take place Friday evening.

While the event is closed to the public, icenetwork.com will provide coverage of Champs Camp, including stories, photos and videos, throughout the event.
