2012 National Solo Dance Championships to be Held at World Arena

(9/20/2012) - The 2012 National Solo Dance Championships, hosted by the Broadmoor Skating Club, will take place Sept. 20-23 at the Colorado Springs World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The National Solo Dance Championships are the culmination of the 2012 National Solo Dance Competition Series. The event marks the second championship where solo dance skaters qualified to compete by participating in other competitions within the series. In total, 216 athletes are scheduled to compete.

The championships will be held in conjunction with the Pikes Peak Classic for pairs and ice dance and will feature 18 skaters from the Eastern, Midwestern, and Pacific Coast sections. Skaters will compete in solo pattern dance at the preliminary, pre-bronze, bronze, pre-silver, silver, pre-gold and gold levels and in solo free dance at the juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior and senior levels.

The 2012 National Solo Dance Series began in November, 2011 and ran through August, 2012. This years' series included solo free dance in addition to solo pattern dance and experienced significant growth over the inaugural 2011 season. The 2012 series boasted 450 solo pattern dance and 270 solo free dance participants at 76 competitions.
