Twelve U.S. Teams Set To Compete at 2013 Nations Cup

(4/25/13) - Twelve U.S. teams are set to compete at 2013 Nations Cup, an international Theatre On Ice (TOI) competition, set to take place April 26-28, 2013, at the Pista de Hielo Lobet in Logrono, La Rioja, Spain.

Nations Cup was first held in in Tolouse, France, in April 2010. U.S. Figure Skating Theatre On Ice teams qualify to compete at the Nations Cup based on their placements and performances at the 2011 and 2012 National Theatre On Ice competitions and placement at the 2011 Nations Cup.

The United States will be represented by 12 teams at four levels:

Senior:
Los Angeles Ice Theatre
Colonial Broadway Blades
ACT 1 (Boston)
Harmony Theatre Company (Michigan)

Junior:
Houston Starz Theatre on Ice
Houston Ice Theatre Skaters
Harmony Theatre Company (Michigan)

Novice:
Space Coast Hurricanes
Bravo!

Adult:
Imagica Theatre on Ice (Boston)
Space Coast Frozen Hurricanes
Harmony Theatre Company (Michigan)

The field consists of 23 teams representing Australia, France, Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain and the United States.

TOI is a form of competitive figure skating that is popular in Europe, where it is known as Ballet on Ice. TOI combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. Teams consist of eight to 30 skaters. Solo skating is discouraged, but is permitted in limited amounts if it enhances the overall telling of the program's story. The programs are judged by U.S. Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musicality.
