2013 Grand Prix Series Continues this Week with NHK Trophy

(11/6/13) - Thirteen U.S. athletes will compete this week at 2013 NHK Trophy, the fourth event of the 2013 International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.

NHK Trophy will take place Nov. 8-10, at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo. NBC will air coverage of NHK Trophy from 1:30-3:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Nov. 10, with additional online and broadcast coverage available on Universal Sports Network throughout the weekend.

Ladies
Gracie Gold, the 2013 U.S silver medalist, looks for her second medal of the season after winning bronze at Skate Canada International two weeks ago. Mirai Nagasu will compete in her first Grand Prix of the season. Nagasu, a 2010 Olympian, is a three-time U.S. medalist and the 2008 U.S. champion.

Men
Adam Rippon and Max Aaron finished second and third, respectively, at 2013 Hilton HHonors Skate America to open the Grand Prix Series. Jeremy Abbott finished sixth the following weekend at Skate Canada.

Pairs

U.S. champions Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir placed sixth at Skate America, while Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier, the reigning World Junior champs, finished fifth at Skate Canada.

Ice dance
Meryl Davis and Charlie White are five-time reigning U.S. champions and 2013 World champions. They won their 13th straight Grand Prix gold medal at Skate America. Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani have won six Grand Prix medals, including bronze at 2013 Skate America.

The Grand Prix Series, now in its 19th season, consists of six international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries are expected to participate in the series. Each athlete is eligible to score points in up to two of the six scheduled events. The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the 2013 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, set for Dec. 5-8, in Fukuoka, Japan.
