U.S. Figure Skating Announces Site of 2009 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships

(2/5/09) - U.S. Figure Skating has announced the selection of Philadelphia, Pa., as the site of the 2009 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships. The event will be hosted by and take place at the Philadelphia Skating Club & Humane Society, July 30-Aug. 1, 2009.

The competition is held every August and is the only figure skating event in the country open solely to high-level, full-time college students. Events are held in four categories: junior ladies, junior men, senior ladies and senior men. To qualify for the U.S. Collegiate Championships, a skater must be a current U.S. Figure Skating member and high school graduate who is enrolled full time in a college or university degree program, entering as a first-year student in September or graduating in May 2009.

More than 60 skaters competed in last year's event, which took place at the Apex Ice Center in Arvada, Colo. In the senior ladies division, the gold went to Alissa Czisny of Bowling Green State University, while Jason Wong of Emmanuel College captured the senior men's title. Lindsay Roman, who represented the University of Iowa, won gold in junior ladies.

Former champions of the U.S. Collegiate Championships include 1994 Olympic silver medalist Nancy Kerrigan, 2009 U.S. ladies champion Czisny and 2007 U.S. men's silver medalist Ryan Bradley
