The 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Governing Council Presented by Hilton HHonors takes place May 3-5 at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

After a full day of meetings and seminars on Thursday, the 2012 Governing Council meeting got under way Friday afternoon with a keynote speech from two members of the U.S. synchronized skating team Haydenettes, who have won 20 U.S. titles and are three-time reigning World Synchronized bronze medalists.

After thanking U.S. Figure Skating and its delegates for its ongoing support as the U.S. synchro program continues to be the largest in the world, Jenna Longo and Lindsay Grajeck called the U.S. to action. They asked attendees to prove to the world that the U.S. has the best figure skaters and fans next year when the 2013 World Synchronized Skating Championships are held next April in Boston.

With that, the delegates, led by U.S. Figure Skating President Patricia St. Peter, got down to business.

Athlete Alumni Dinner
Friday night's festivities included the Seventh Annual Athlete Alumni Dinner and featured current and former Team USA members. On hand were Sarah Hughes, Emily Hughes, Timothy Goebel, Amanda Evora, Mark Ladwig, Taylor Toth, Colin McManus, Douglas Razzano, Becky Bereswill and many more. For the first time, Jason Wong along with Felicia Beck and Pilar Bosley, presented an evening of 'Sunset, Glitter and Gold' for over 100 attendees.

Lindsey Weber, chair, Athletes Advisory Committee, opened the evening by introducing the annual winners of the AAA award. The award has distributed $15,000 to athletes who are active in the sport and their communities since the scholarship fund began seven years ago.

Congratulations to winners Ashley Cain (ladies), Jay Yostanto (men's), Britney Simpson (pairs), Hannah Rosinski (ice dancing), Courtney Cameron (synchronized) and Vincent Zhou (overall).

Wong and his co-hosts then introduced keynote speaker Tanith Belbin, who with partner Ben Agosto, is the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, five-time U.S. champion and four-time World medalist.

Belbin graciously spoke of her experience as a member of U.S. Figure Skating, both as a longtime athlete and a budding coach and choreographer, since moving to the United States 15 years ago.

"I experienced the support, motivation and guidance offered by U.S. Figure Skating," Belbin said. "It's an organization that places as much emphasis on future champions as it does on supporting the current leaders.

"I feel the true measure of the organization's success is not based on results in a record book, but in the number of dreamers inspired over the years."
