Secretary

"The secretary shall keep the records of U.S. Figure Skating and of all meetings of the GC and the BOD, shall prepare minutes of all meetings of the GC and the BOD; and shall, with the president, sign all agreements and contracts made by U.S. Figure Skating if so directed by the GC or the BOD."

Duties

  • Voting member of the BOD
  • Announces BOD meetings
  • Issues the call to meeting for the GC
  • Attends each BOD meeting or conference call
  • Takes detailed notes for compiling Minutes and Reports of Action, distributes to the BOD for approval and publishes when approval
  • Maintains job descriptions for the board positions and group coordinators, presents them annually to the BOD for updating
  • Support the transition to a successor when term is completed

Other Activities

  • Assist the Parliamentarian with the Governing Council meeting. This includes working with the Parliamentarian and Rules Chair before, during, and after the BOD meeting and GC meeting.

Qualifications

Highly Recommended:

  • Working knowledge of the By-Laws and Rules
  • Working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Served as a delegate or attended USFS Governing Council for a minimum of 3 years

Recommended:

  • Have served as a Regional, Sectional or National Chair of a Committee for at least 3 years
  • Substantial experience in the skating community (e.g. skater, judge, accountant, club official, parent or other relevant experience)
Estimated time commitment: Attendance at all BOD meetings and calls (3-4 hours per month plus time to write minutes) and the GC meeting (4-5 days plus 3-4 hours to write the minutes).
