Reserve Envelope
  • Consideration will be given to skaters or teams that do not qualify for the A, B or C envelopes based on the depth and strength of their respective event at the U.S. Championships.
  • Consideration will be given to skaters or teams that qualified for the A, B or C envelopes in the previous season.
  • Athletes or teams that are assigned to an international competition and do not meet the criteria for the A, B or C envelopes will placed in the Reserve Envelope.

Athletes qualifying in more than one envelope and/or tier will always be placed in the higher envelope and tier.

Consideration will be given to place World medalists from the previous two seasons into Team A - Tier 2 or Team B - Tier 1 at the discretion of the International Committee Management Subcommittee. These athletes must have retained their eligible status and must be committed to competing in the next competitive season.

Athletes that were in the Team A Envelope the previous year and plan on continuing to compete will automatically be placed in Team C - Tier 1 if they do not meet the criteria for Team A or Team B.

Consideration to place the athletes in Team C - Tier 1 will be given for senior-level skaters placing lower at the U.S. Championships where the event was very strong or the results were very close.

Consideration to place the athletes in Team C - Tier 2 will be given for junior-level skaters placing lower at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships where the event was very strong or the results were very close.

If an athlete or team meets the criteria for the B or C envelope but does not qualify for the U.S. Championships, they will be placed in Team C - Tier 2.

Athletes in the Reserve Envelope that medal at a "Senior B" international, Junior Grand Prix or Grand Prix competition will be placed immediately in Team Envelope C - Tier 1 and receive the remaining funding for that season.

Athletes selected for a collegiate international competition or the World University Games through the collegiate international program will not become part of the team envelope and will not be eligible for funding unless they are already members of the team envelope based on other results. Furthermore, if a skater is a member of the Reserve Team and medals at the collegiate international and/or World University Games, he or she will not move up to Team C based on that result.
