Tennell Wins Ladies Title at 2018 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships
(1/5/18) - Bradie Tennell (Skokie Valley SC) won the free skate en route to the U.S. ladies title on Friday night at the 2018 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, California.
Tennell, also the short program winner, skated last in the 20-skater field at SAP Center and finished with an overall score of 219.51 points.
Mirai Nagasu (Pasadena FSC), the 2008 U.S. champion, earned a silver medal with 213.84 points, ahead of Karen Chen (Peninsula FSC), the 2017 U.S. champion, who secured the bronze medal with a score of 198.59 points. Three-time U.S. champion Ashley Wagner (SC of Wilmington) finished fourth with 196.19.
The ladies nominations to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team will be announced Saturday, January 6, at 8 a.m. ET live on NBC’s TODAY show.
Prior to the ladies free skate, two-time and reigning U.S. ice dance champions Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani (SC of New York) posted a score of 82.33 to lead the 13-team ice dance field after the short dance.
Four-time and reigning U.S. bronze medalists Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue (Lansing SC) are second with 79.10 points, while 2015 U.S. champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates are third with a score of 77.61.
Competition will resume with the pairs free skate at 2:45 p.m. ET, followed by the men's free skate at 6:45 p.m. The free dance is set for Sunday, January 7, at 3:30 p.m. ET.
