(9/6/16) - The 2016 National Solo Dance Final, hosted by the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, will take place Sept. 7-10 at Fred Rust Arena, in Newark, Delaware.
The National Solo Dance Final is the culmination of the 2016 National Solo Dance Competition Series. The event marks the sixth series final in which solo dance skaters qualify to compete by participating in other competitions within the series. In total, 191 athletes are scheduled to compete.
The championships will feature skaters from the Eastern, Midwestern and Pacific Coast sections. Skaters will compete in solo pattern dance at the preliminary, pre-bronze, bronze, pre-silver, silver, pre-gold, gold and international levels, in the combined event at the juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior and senior levels and in the shadow dance event in the juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior and senior levels.
The 2016 National Solo Dance Series began in February and concluded in August. This year's series included a combined event, comprised of a solo free dance and solo pattern dances (or short dance at the junior and senior levels), solo pattern dance and a shadow dance event, where two skaters perform pattern dances side-by-side. More than 450 skaters competed in 37 events.
